Description

Indulge in the perfect blend of comforting familiarity and delightful innovation with our Apple Semolina Pie. This delightful dessert takes the classic apple pie to a new level by incorporating semolina into the crust for an exquisite texture and flavor experience.

Ingredients
  • 2 lb apples
  • 1 cup semolina
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter (melted)
  • 3/4 cup milk
Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350F/180C.

  2. Peel and grate the apples. Transfer them into a bowl and mix in the cinnamon.

  3. In a large bowl mix the semolina, flour, sugar, and baking powder.

  4. Apple Semolina Pie

Line a baking dish (the one I used is 11x7 inches) with parchment paper. Start layering the pie, 1 cup semolina mixture followed by a layer of apples. Repeat and make sure you end up with an apple layer on top.

  5. Mix the milk and butter and pour over the pie. Pierce the pie with a fork so the milk mixture passes through all the layers.

  6. Apple Semolina Pie

Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes. Let cool before slicing.

Tips
  • Opt for firm, tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp. They hold their shape and add a nice contrast to the sweetness of the pie.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar to your taste. You can use less sugar if you prefer a less sweet cake or if your apples are particularly sweet.
  • Experiment with spices and flavors. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla are classic choices, but you can get creative with cardamom, cloves, or citrus zest for a unique twist.
  • Consider adding mix-ins like chopped nuts, raisins, or dried cranberries for added texture and flavor.
  • Apple semolina pie pairs well with a dusting of powdered sugar, a dollop of whipped cream, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce. Consider adding these accompaniments when serving.
