Best Season Summer
Description

Caprese skewers are a simple and elegant appetizer. They are not only visually appealing but also a delightful treat with the fresh flavors of summer. They are perfect for gatherings, or as a light and refreshing snack.

Ingredients
  • Cherry or grape tomatoes
  • Fresh mozzarella balls
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Balsamic glaze (or balsamic reduction)
  • Extra-virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • Wooden skewers
Instructions
  1. Start with threading a tomato onto your skewer, followed by a folded basil leaf, a mozzarella ball, another basil leaf, and another tomato. Repeat this pattern until the skewer is filled.  Leave some space for easy handling.

  2. Place the assembled Caprese skewers on a serving platter or tray. Drizzle the skewers with extra-virgin olive oil, ensuring each skewer gets a light coating. Sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper over the top.

  3. Drizzle a small amount of balsamic glaze or reduction over each skewer. You can also serve extra glaze on the side for dipping.

  4. Arrange the skewers neatly on a platter and serve immediately. Caprese skewers are best when enjoyed fresh.

Tips
  • Get creative with your Caprese skewers by adding other ingredients like olives, prosciutto, or roasted red peppers for extra flavor and color.
  • While cherry or grape tomatoes are traditional, you can also use larger tomato varieties, like Roma or beefsteak tomatoes, and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  • Instead of, or in addition to, the balsamic glaze, you can drizzle the skewers with pesto sauce for an extra burst of flavor.
  • Consider adding a sprinkle of dried oregano for added seasoning.
  • Make and serve the skewers as close to your serving time as possible to maintain their freshness and appearance.
  • Arrange the Caprese skewers on a decorative platter or serving board for an elegant presentation. You can also garnish with extra basil leaves for a finishing touch.
