Ingredients
  • 1 pound beef chuck (cut into 1-inch cubes)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 2 carrots (chopped)
  • 4-5 potatoes (cut into chunks)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Salt and pepper
  • Olive oil
  • Flour
Instructions
  1. In a large pot, heat up olive oil and add the carrots and onion. Cook until they soften.

  2. Coat the beef in flour and add it to the pot. Cook until it's browned. 

  3. Add the can or tomatoes, garlic, and spices and mix well.

  4. Add the potatoes, broth and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for about an hour.

Tips
  • You can use smoked paprika or even a mix or smoked and regular, for more intense flavor.
  • You can also add other vegetables to the goulash, such as peas or mushrooms.
  • Serve the goulash with crusty bread or noodles.
  • Use a good quality paprika. Hungarian paprika is the best, but you can also use smoked paprika or regular paprika.
  • Don't overcook the beef. It should be tender but still have some bite to it.
  • Let the goulash simmer for at least an hour to allow the flavors to develop.
  • You can also add a little bit of red wine to the goulash. This will add a depth of flavor that is really delicious.
  • If you want to make the goulash spicier, you can add a little bit more paprika or cayenne pepper.
